History of Audubon Park

Audubon Park Neighborhood History – Natives recall Coytown and Audubon Park springing up in the 1940s when Fashion Square Mall was still a cow pasture. There was only the airbase on the eastern horizon. Most of the area’s development occurred in the early 1950s when Sorenson and Fletcher built houses on Chelsea Street and Falcon Drive. In the early 1950’s lots sold for $1000 and houses between $18,000 and $24,000 for lake-front property in Audubon Park. These same newly-renovated homes now sell for much more. In 1993, the City of Orlando completed the Colonial Town Center Plan, a 20-year growth plan for East Colonial Drive. The Colonial Town Center, which has been designated a metropolitan activity center in Orlando’s Growth Management Plan, will be a tremendous asset to Audubon Park and Coytown neighborhoods by providing economic and entertainment opportunities for the area.
