About Apopka, Florida
The City of Apopka was incorporated in 1882. At that time, the City limits were one mile in all directions from the Masonic Lodge. The Masonic Lodge (“Lodge”) still on Main Street (US 441) in its original location and remains the oldest lodge room in continuous use in Florida. Ferns became the industry for Apopka in 1912 and shortly after Apopka developed the name of “Fern City”. Tropical plants were introduced to growers in the area and this influx of foliage took over the fern industry and the City became known as “The Indoor Foliage Capital of the World”. The City of Apopka is located approximately 12 miles NW of Orlando and has an area slightly more than 30 square miles with a population of about 30,000 residents.
